So you want to travel and see the world, but not be a walking cliché?

I feel you! Most people I know took a year out to live in Australia, or saved up for that long backpacking trip in Asia. Don’t get me wrong, Australia is at the top of my bucket list and I did travel around Asia (and loved it!).

However, there are plenty of places to visit that are a little more off the beaten track. Here are 19 amazing places to visit that will take you away from the norm, and give you a great travel experience!

1. Vietnam

Unfortunately, I didn’t have too much time here, only a few days in the north, but it was enough to make me fall in love with Vietnam. Halong Bay was just amazing, and next time I’ll make sure to experience Sapa, as well head down south and explore the rest of Vietnam.

2. Iceland

Maybe not the cheapest place to visit, but well worth the money. Iceland has such beautiful landscapes, colourful rooftops, and friendly locals. There’s so much to do and see here, and definitely a place worth visiting!

3. Morocco

Delicious food, friendly locals, colours everywhere, and the best place for you Instagram feed. Morocco has become more and more popular and should definitely be high up on your ‘to visit’ list!

4. Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of my absolute favourite countries. It’s got so much to see and do that there really isn’t enough time in the world to do the country justice. Go hang out at the beach, shop at markets in Mong Kok or eat some delicious food! Make sure not to miss heading up to the Peak or seeing Big Buddha.

5. Bolivia

Ever felt like challenging yourself? Why not do it big and ride the death road in La Paz. It might just be one of the scariest things you’ll ever do, but it’s an adrenaline kick like no other!

6. Sweden

Sweden has a lot to offer and is a great place to visit, especially in the summer. Almost everyone speaks English, making it easy for tourists, and even though it’s not the cheapest place, there are plenty of ways you can visit on a budget.

Stockholm is such a beautiful city, make sure to wander around the old town and spend some time walking along the water. Or head up north to chase the Northern Lights and enjoy the breathtaking landscape.

7. Scotland

Spend some time in Glasgow and Edinburgh, explore the Scotland Highlands and make your way to Loch Ness for some breathtaking views.

And if you want a getaway where you’ll actually get away, then exploring Isle of Skye might be the perfect place for you. Scotland it such a beautiful country and has so much to offer, and it’s a perfect place to take a road trip.

8. Puerto Rico

I spent a week in Puerto Rico and could have easily spent a lot more time there. Old San Juan is the cosiest area in San Juan, and I would recommend renting a car and seeing more of the island. Make sure you don’t miss El Yunque National Forest!

9. Japan

Tokyo anyone? Japan is one of the most beautiful countries, maybe not the cheapest, but one worth the money. There’s no place like Tokyo, and the capital in itself is worth a visit, but the rest of Japan is not to be missed either.

10. Guatemala

One of my all-time favourite destinations, of course you can’t really visit Guatemala and not see Tikal, and Champey is a good recommendation as well. Make sure to make your way to Lake Atitlan for some yoga, beautiful views, and all around relaxation.

11. Norway

Explore the Fjords, spend a few days in Oslo, or head to Bergen. Norway has such amazing landscape, and definitely worth a visit.

12. Mexico

This amazing country needs to be at the top of your to-visit list, head down the coast from Cancun to Playa el Carmen and Tulum, and make sure to stop in Bacalar and enjoy the lake of seven colours. Head to San Cristobal de las Casas, and if you’re a foodie you won’t want to miss Oaxaca.

13. Canada

Canada has so much to offer no time is enough if you want to explore it all. Popular choices to visit are Vancouver, Jasper, Rockies, and Banff, but also put Yukon on your to-visit list if you’re up for something a little different! It’s located at Northwest and runs to the border to Alaska.

14. Cambodia

There’s so much to see and do here. Of course, Angkor Wat should be at the top of your list, but there’s also beautiful beaches, a vibrant capital, and delicious food, all great reasons to visit Cambodia.

15. Ireland

Rent a car and head out for an amazing road trip, spend some time discovering Dublin, and simply enjoy the beautiful landscape. Ireland is a place not to be missed and should be at the top of your list.

16. China

Who doesn’t have seeing the Great Wall of China on their bucket list? If you don’t, you should. It’s such a breathtaking view and one of the most amazing experiences.

Beijing has so much to offer, from The Forbidden City to the Temple of Heaven to the Summer Palace and even the Lama Temple. Not only does Beijing give you a great reason to visit China, but the rest of the country is definitely worth a visit as well!

17. New Zealand

If you can go, go! Don’t question for a second if it will be worth it, because I promise you that it will.

While most people will head to Australia and experience the wonders of Sydney or Melbourne , I would rather explore New Zealand. It’s the most beautiful place and should be at the top of your list!

18. Belize

Just between Mexico and Guatemala you’ll find Belize, it’s one of the more expensive countries in Central America, but it’s worth it.

Head out to the Cayes for some top quality scuba diving (I mean, the blue hole anyone?!), or explore old Mayan Ruins. If you spend a few days in San Ignacio you can take day tours to Tikal, and make sure not to miss the ATM Caves!

19. India

India might just be the craziest place you’ll ever visit. It’s such a huge country with so much to offer that you’re gonna want to stay for a while.

Visit New Delhi, see the Taj Mahal or visit the golden city up north. And head down to the chilled out south, and explore Goa and Kerala. It’s a travel experience like no other.

What countries would you add to this bucket list?
